Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 cup chopped onion
- 1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper
- 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
Instructions
- Step 1: Brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Drain off any excess grease.
- Step 2: Add the chopped onion and green bell pepper to the skillet with the ground beef. Cook until the vegetables are softened, about 5 minutes.
- Step 3: Stir in the tomato sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and chili powder.
- Step 4: Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened.
- Step 5: Serve the Sloppy Joe mixture on hamburger buns.
Notes
- Store leftover Sloppy Joe filling in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Reheat leftovers gently on the stovetop over medium-low heat, adding a splash of water or beef broth if needed to loosen the sauce.
- For a tangy twist, top your Sloppy Joes with a scoop of coleslaw – the cool crunch is a perfect complement!
- To boost the flavor depth, try browning the ground beef with a pinch of smoked paprika.
